Senior District Employee Gives to Garcia

LAUSD Deputy Superintendent of Instruction Jamie Aquino

School Board President Monica Garcia’s latest campaign finance statement includes some familiar names — including a $1,000 contribution from LAUSD Deputy Superintendent of Instruction Jaime Aquino, a top aide to Superintendent John Deasy.

While it’s illegal to solicit campaign contributions from Los Angeles city employees, it is perfectly legal for  employees to give on their own accord, according to section 49.7.8 of the municipal code.  Other contributors include several members of the Chernin family and Superintendent Deasy’s wife, Patricia Deasy (see full list here.)

We’ll have updates on contributions to other campaigns in future days.

Mr. Jaime Aquino is listed as 1 of only about 3 “LAUSD Teachers” that have donated to Ms. Monica Garcia’s campaign.

But Mr. Jaime Aquino, as you have mentioned, is not a teacher…he’s the LAUSD Deputy Superintendent of Instruction. This appears to be laughable (actionable?) mis-representation.

I don’t know many teachers who are giving $1000 donations. Then again, I don’t know many “teachers” making $250,000 like Deputy Sup’t Jaime Aquino.
